‘Our
viewpoint is not limited to one place, it is universal. Any kind of
social system that desires goodness, then we accept that. Evil in any
society
cannot be tolerated. That which is laid down in the Vedic Shastras
[Scriptures which teach about human rights and dignity]; that is our Authority
– that then is our complete pleasure. Our complete Authority
is in that. And in
other systems we acknowledge all those features which are in accordance
with
our Vedic
Shastras. If
some elements of our Vedic doctrine are
found in every social system; then in every social system we have The
Authority,
to some extent. We cannot abandon this Authority of ours, whether or
not the
followers of those social systems maintain relations with us.
‘In
one system there is 2 annas
[an 1/8th of
a rupee – which is a small part] of
our Vedic Scripture, and then
in another there is 4 annas [twice as much],
and in some there is 2 paisa
part [2/1000ths of a rupee.
which is very
small]. Wherever there is a 1 anna part
[a
very small amount] then
we
make an effort so that becomes 4 annas [which is so
much more],
then
good! Wherever there is that much Vedic (teaching); really that is the
reason
we wish the followers of those systems happiness too.
Later,
‘Shri
Charan’ ('Guru Dev', Swami Brahmanand Saraswati)
elaborated on his own “dharmik”
(‘devout’) connection to other devout
institutions:-
‘Such
institutions are like chambers, and we are situated in a
“hall”. Therefore, the
chambers are connected to our “hall” so we give
light to them, but we remain
seated in the “hall” and we do not have to get up.
This is why, even though
religious institutions have a connection with us, they operate in their
own
domain.’
